Monday Smiles

This weeked we
played fort under the table for hours

Found a new favorite seat in the kitchen

Talked to Nana & Papa Leppert on the phone

Practiced our goofy faces

Helped put together the new (new to us) dining table

And watched Saturday morning cartoons...
in our tutu and wings
(doesn't everyone do that?)

Hope your weekend was as fun filled as ours!

Loving Yellow Chairs

I must be thinking spring
or rather longing for it as there is still snow on the ground
and it was 25 degrees this morning

Anyway I have been loving the color yellow
so much, that I believe my new dining room
will have a yellow theme

So to get started on my new inspiration I picked up these

They were $30 for both
a bit more than I wanted to spend
but I love their curvy lines
and pretty details

I told my hubby I was going to paint them yellow
and he just gave me the look
The "what in the world is she thinking" look
I told some coworkers I was gong to paint them yellow
and I'm pretty sure I got the same look
I told Lilly I was going to paint them yellow
and she loved the idea
Good to know my 3 year old and I share
the same decorative style :).

I usually don't go for bold colors
I see them everywhere and think they look wonderful
but when it comes to actually taking the plunge
and doing it on my own renovations
I usually chicken out

But not this time
this time I went for it
even though after the first coat of bright sun yellow
I thought I might blind myself
but after a little distressing
the yellow was calmed down
and now it just looks warm and inviting and yummy

I thought about keeping the original fabric on the seats
until I remembered I still had some fabric
left over from Nolee's chair

So now they look like this
and I love them
and so does the hubby!

Just look at those pretty curves

Lilly's eyes about bugged out of her head this morning when she saw them
She told me she loves them and they are her new favorites.

Garage Sale Find to Book shelf

I've seen these at pottery barn kids
Collector's Shelves
and I love them
I do not love the price of $39-$59

So I happened to have picked up 2 of these at a garage sale
last year for $5 for the both of them
(well not this exact one...I of course just didn't stop
to take a picture of mine before I started...but you get the idea)
Picture of a Decorative Wall Mounted Shelf, Country Style, Oak Wood, 24 inches

So when I spied them in the garage under a pile
of junk odds & ends bought with the best of intention
I started thinking...
Then I ran over to our local habitat for humanity restore and
picked up a 4ft piece of skinny trim for $1.25
and a larger piece of pine trim for $2.50
since the air nail gun scares the bejeezes out of me
I asked my hubby to nail them together
which took a total of 6 min
I added some bright spray paint from my supply
 and now we have these

By the way I did not ask Lilly to pose
she did the whole Vanna White thing on her own

Of course we had to have one for Nolee's room too.

Check out that cheesy grin!

I love that she can reach them herself

I am absolutely loving these new bookshelves
The girls get to display their favorites
and I have read that kids actually read more
when you display books like this
I am also loving the fact that they cost me a total of
$8.75 for both

I'm thinking I will look for more shelves at garage sales
this year, and maybe do more of these
in their playroom!

Right place at the right time??

So there is a local website that I check on a daily basis
and usually only adds fuel to my furniture renovation ideas
It is like a local ebay
Just like on the movie 40 Year Old Virgin
This guy Steve has a shop in town
and sells his stuff online
You can go in and look at items
but you must bid on them online to actually purchase/win them
Some of the stuff is definitely not even worth the $1 starting bid
but other items are great deals
He has sold an Ethan Allen table in the past for $40
Solid wood dining chairs for a $1 each
it all just depends on how high the bid gets
each item starts at $1 and goes up by $1 intervals
for the week the items are listed

Anyway today I went to pick up my winnings
a magazine rack and metal trivet and plaque holder for a total of $3.81
I was a little miffed because I lost out on the
full bed frame that I wanted by 25 cents
it went for a total of $32.25 and is easily worth 3 times that
140.JPG
pretty isn't it

When I got there there was an older gentleman picking up his stuff
We got to talking and I found out he does this for a living
As in I was talking to a actual "Picker"
By the way I love love love the show American Picker's
What a fun job
Meeting new people, hearing new stories and finding treasures
everyday

As I was chatting up my new hero
I noticed an old sewing machine in the back
that I knew had been listed a few weeks ago
I asked Steve about it and
the sewing machine, plus the 4 boxes, chair
nightstand, mirrors, globes and other
items sitting in that corner
were all from one buyer who hadn't paid
and hadn't returned any phone calls
Steve had already paid the sellers
He said he was going to have to relist them
and would probably end up losing money
It was at that point my new hero spoke up
and said if he could buy some of the items
at the winning bid price he would take them off
of Steve's hands
I of course chimmd right in and said I
would help him out and take a look too

I dove right in
dress clothes and all and started picking through the boxes
I took a closer look at the sewing machine
the top needs some work for sure

but look at what was hiding inside!

102B.JPG

and the doors open on the front
How pretty is this?!?

102C.JPG

The bidder had won it at a total of $15.50
I told Steve I would happily take it off his hands
along with these two items as well

110.JPG

This mirror is freaking heavy and HUGE
and is going to look amazing over my buffet in my new dining room
which is all still in my head - but hey I have to start somewhere
and for $5 I figured it was a good place to start!

And I am so excited about this one
1003.JPG

Do you know how hard it is to explain to a 3 year old that the earth is round
without a visual aid?
I can't wait to show Lilly this
Now she will know where the moon goes when it goes to "bed"
It was a little more than my cheapo self usually spends
but at $11 I figured it was a good investment
We had a globe when I was little and I used to look at
that thing all the time.

The best part is my new hero
kept double checking to make sure
I was going to buy the globe and sewing machine
I truly think he wanted them
Maybe I actually know what I'm doing
or at least it made me feel that way so I'm going with it

Now if the winning bidder for the bed would just not pay...

Dance Moves

Well I haven't snagged my mom's camera yet
but here is a little clip of our nightly dance offs

Man do I really look that funny while doing it?!?
Oh and apparently Nolee is doing some sort of belly dance
If you ask her where her belly is - she will very proudly show you
and I don't mean just point to it - you get to see the whole thing!

Just Dance

Okay so I am not a big fan of video games
I've just never got the idea of sitting in front of the TV for hours on end
I would much rather be sitting in front of a book for hours
or be outside, or exercising, or playing with the girls
or be painting something or even cooking
well maybe not cooking...

But now I am hooked
my parents bought this
and we brought our Wii over on Sunday
to our weekly family get togethers to try it out
It ROCKS
My mom, my sister, my future sister-in-law, all the kids
and even my hubby
danced the day away for 2 1/2 hours straight
we were all sweating, and laughing and having a ball
My 3 year old loves it
and is darn good
even the 1 year olds got in on the booty shaking

My husband video taped us doing it
and if I can snag my mom's camera I promise to upload
the entire embarrassing hilarious thing

I even asked my mom if we could borrow the game
and played it for an hour at home
by myself
and had so much fun
and my arms ache today
so I know I got in a good workout as well

Just what this family needed since we are starting to
go stir crazy as the snow just doesn't want to go away!

And now I found out they also sell these

Hmmm maybe someone will be getting these in their Easter baskets!

Some Drink to go with our Eat

I took my EAT sign into work to get an idea if people liked it
and yes I was probably fishing for compliments
so sue me if I like hearing that people like things I make
it never gets old to me :).
Anyway one of my coworkers, and good friend
loved it and wanted one of her own
but she wanted DRINK instead
to go into her kitchen
she loves wine (so do I...one of the many reasons we get along so well)
and is thinking she will add some corks somewhere on the sign
So while doing laundry and spray painting some other projects
I made this...

I love the font on this one even more than the EAT sign
It's just curvy enough to add a little extra character
and for some reason seems somewhat Irish to me
Maybe it's just because St. Patty's day is around the corner
and I have been thinking of doing a "lucky" sign as well
I used the same glue stick technique as on the EAT sign

The hubby thought the sign was awesome
I think he was thinking of his a bar area in his man cave downstairs
neither of which are finished or even on the docket to be finished anytime soon
but if  I could get a peek in his head I think that's what was running through it
He actually looked a bit disappointed when I told him it wasn't for us
Don't worry honey - I will gladly make more :)!

I grabbed some awesome magnetic bottle caps we got as a gift from our favorite cousin in FL
and set them on it just to see how they looked
kind of works I think
but since she wanted corks I didn't actually glue them down or anything
If I make one for our house I may have to look more into this idea though

They are just so darn cute!
