Dinosaurs!!

Took the kids to a hands on musuem that had Dinosaurs (and other things) on display this weekend

I so love this picture of Nolee...what a cutie!
Lilly did ask if the Dinosaurs were going to play fetch (Night at The Museum is one of her favorite movies)

There was even a "sand" box where they could dig for bones

Lilly's favorite part of the whole day...driving a combine just
like Uncle Grant and Papa Pohl

The Dreaded Question...

So Lilly had to go to the Dr yesterday.  It was a follow up because
she was born with a hole in her heart.  Not a big hole, but a small one that they
needed to observe and watch.  When I spoke with the receptionist on the phone
she said they would do an EKG (stickers) and possibly an unltrasound (jelly).
So trying to be a good mom I was talking to Lilly about the procedures
on the way over there.  I told her they would put stickers on her chest
to listen to her heart.  I told her they might also put jelly (could not think of a better
description) on her chest and then put a wand on her and move it around.
I told her if they did this we would get to see her heart on the monitor.
I told her how it was the same procedure that Mommy went through when
her and Nolee were in my belly.  I talked it up, saying how neat it
was to be able to see them move around when they were still in my belly.

I don't know why I didn't see this coming...she sat there for a few second contemplating
and thinking of what I had just told her.  Then she asks in her most serious 3 year old voice.
"But Mommy how did we get in there?"
CRAP (my actual first thought)
"Well honey when two people love eachother and are married
if they choose to, they make babies together (thinking this was
a pretty good non-specifc explanation...actually thought I was doing pretty good here).
"No, Mommy, how did we get in your belly?"
CRAP AND DOUBLE CRAP
Thankfully we started to talk about how a baby gets fed while in their Mommy's tummy
and just kind of bipased a true explanation.
Then she proceeds to tell me this.
"Mommy did you know babies are naked in your tummy"
(smiling) "Yes honey I did know that"
"Well don't they get cold?"
"No honey, they stay nice and warm and are protected by their mommies"
"Well what if you open your mouth really big on a cold day,
then I bet they would get cold"
This kid cracks me up!!!

And now the chair

So this is what we started with.  $7.50 at Salvation Army and totally stuck in the 70's.

After some paint we were getting there.

Next I had the tackle the cushion (this is SCARY to me).
This was my first attempt at sewing a cushion.
Funny thing...apparently I gave myself waaay too much seam allowance
and the cushion turned out a bit bigger (okay a freaking lot) than the old one
So what's a girl to do...start over (never)...nope I just stuffed that puppy
with more foam inserts and poly fill until I could stuff no more, then sewed it shut
and called it a night.  It's a bit puffier than the old one, but you know what
it's comfy as all get out!

The best thing - my husband looked at the cushion and actually said "wow, I'm impressed
how did you know how to do that?"
Thanks honey!

Dresser transformation

Well I did it.  Not too bad for a first attempt at this whole glazing idea.
Okay actually I love it and I'm just a wee bit proud of myself!

Remember this?  Well I finally got enough courage to paint it!

And now it looks like this!  Yes it's still sitting in my garage but I couldn't wait to take pics
(cuz I'm impatient like that!)
Oh that light shining on it is my husband's headlights...
see too impatient to even wait for a good camera moment!

Camp Weekend

Conversations with a 3 year old...

Up at Camp (upstairs bathroom)...
Me:  "Lilly let's go potty"
Lilly:  "Mommy how come there are 2 seats?"
Me:  "In case there are a lot of people here, two people can go at once"
Lilly:  "And then when we are done you can wash you hands in one sink
and I can wash my hands in the other!"
Me:  (only after I stopped laughing)
"Um no Lilly, only one of those is a sink, the other is a urinal."

In the car...
Lilly:  "Mom why are there so many trees?"
Me:  "Well because trees grow everywhere."
Lilly:  "Like up in the clouds?"
Me:  "No I don't think any trees grow up in the clouds"
Lilly:  "No, like in the clouds where giants live (Jack and the Bean Stalk)."
Me:  "Oh well that is different, I suppose there are trees there"
Lilly:  "Mommy how do we get to the clouds?"
Me:  "I don't know Lilly, how do you think we get to the clouds?"
Lilly:  "Well we have to take a straight road, then a twisty one, then 2 more straight roads,
it's right next to Chucky Cheese."

Learned something new this weekend....

So we took our weekly trip to town this weekend
seriously we get stir crazy so we have to get out
even if it's just to look (yeah like that really happens)

Anywho we went into town after lunch
since Nolee is down to one nap a day now
didn't think twice about it
and even dressed the girls in their new matching coats

See how cute they looked!

Well Nolee looked a bit different by the time we came home
I didn't take a picture as I was a little busy
cleaning PUKE off of everything
her cute new coat
the entire carseat
my scarf (which I used to wipe her poor face with)
my entryway where we stripped the poor kid down

I'm not sure if it was a bug or if she gets car sick
I so hope it was a bug because I do not want to make that a weekly occurance
I never knew her stomach could hold that much
heck I didn't know an adult's stomach could hold that much

Anyway now we've made a family rule to wait for lunch to settle before heading out in the car!

It's getting there

Her hair is finally getting long enough to do something with
Well besides the barretts that last for about 5 minutes before she rips them out
She tried for a good 10 minutes to get these babies out
but thankfully her arms aren't quite long enough just yet

I'm not sure why they stick straight up (there is no product in that hair!)
but I love it and those darn chubby cheeks!

Somehow these make the mullet in back not seem so bad
seriously we put the back into a pony tail this weekend and it looked like a rat tail
should have taken a picture of that...

Happy Tuesday

The girls had time this weekend to get into the dress up bin they got for Christmas
Here are only a few of the outfits they had to try on

Not sure why a chef doesn't need pants, but leggings instead, but she insisted...
